Script Excerpt from “School Run” Episode 1

EXT. SCHOOL CAR PARK – MORNING 1

Maire BRENNAN cycles toward the school yard on a tandem bike with BEA BRENNAN on the back, Bea’s legs are hovering above the pedals, Maire is doing all the work.
Maire stops.

MAIRE
Come on Bea.

BEA
It really hurts.

MAIRE
(Gung ho spirit)
It’s like Andre says you’ve just got push through the pain. Bea shakes her head from side to side.

BEA
I really don’t like Andre.
Bea gets off the bike with great difficulty, she huffs andmoans and it appears as though every muscle in her body hurts. Maire shakes her head and gets off the bike and they walk together toward the school yard.

BEA
AHHhhhhhhhhhh.

MAIRE
And that’s why we stretch.

LINDA MACKEN is Standing a short distance from the school gate, she’s holding her Son DEVON MACKEN by the hand. She’s deep in conversation with teacher JACK MURPHY.
Devon sees Bea and waves furiously. Bea attempts waving back, her arm aches, so she grimaces, stops waving and instead she gives him the thumbs up.
Devon reciprocates.

MAIRE
A new year, a new regime and remember, exercise isn’t a fad it’s a lifestyle. And I know it’s hard at the start but trust me after a while it’s addictive. Do you know what addictive means?

Script Excerpt from “School Run” Episode 2

INT. COUNSELOR’S OFFICE 1

Bea sits in front of her counselor chewing gum and blowing a bubble.

BEA
Chewing gum isn’t fattening, it’slike smoking that way, except it doesn’t kill you, unless you choke. I nearly choked when the school ceiling came down.

COUNSELOR
What happened?

BEA
Well I found a piece of chewing gum in my pocket and I’d just started chewing and I heard the ceiling collapse and went…
She re-enacts inhaling and saying Ahhhhhh.

BEA
And my chewing gum went to the back of my throat and then I coughed it up and I was OK.

COUNSELOR
I was referring to the collapsed ceiling.

BEA
Oh.

INT. SCHOOL HALL – MORNING

Maire and Padraig are both wearing hard hats and walking around a very large mount of plaster, wood and concrete debris. Resting on top of the debris is a few desks and chairs and sticking out of the debris is the remainder of Larry’s star costume. In the middle of the ceiling resides a large hole.

MAIRE
What the hell kind of builder removes a supporting wall without putting in an RSJ?

PADRAIG
Gangster, sin a bhí ann. Dúirt mé  leis an mbord. Droch thógálaí,  droch jab.
